Scott applied to Inclusion WA’s Recreation Access Program having researched a number of activities that he was interested in checking out with his Rec Officer. His main goal was to do something he enjoyed in a social environment. Scott said that up to that point, he stayed inside a lot and led a bit of a reclusive lifestyle, which he really wanted to change.
Discgolf was of particular interest to Scott but he had only seen the sport once before within a disability-specific setting. Together with his Rec Officer , Scott made enquiries with the Perth Discgolf Club based at Cockman Park in Greenwood. Kris, one of the players at the club, organised to meet Scott there to lend him some discs and show him the basics of the sport.
Very soon, Scott became quite proficient, placing 4th in the club’s annual Ace Race and scoring a coveted Hole-in-One! Beyond the sport though, Scott said that getting out and about helped him build up a lot more confidence whilst at the same time making new friends and forging new relationships with some of the regulars at the club.
Now that Scott is getting up to the park for a game of discgolf once a fortnight, he’s become a bit of a regular himself!
