Adrian is a confident seven year old with autism, who started attending the Inclusive Holiday program in Karratha in late 2011, aged five. When he first started coming along he wasn’t the confident young guy we know today, in fact, he was a little unsure of all the new faces and was reluctant to leave his mother’s side. With some coaxing and his little sister’s (Dana) help, Adrian slowly started to mix with the other participants and the people from the local sports clubs. Soon enough, Adrian was a regular at the holiday program and he started to build some quality relationships with those around him.
Adrian is now a boy oozing with confidence and charisma. The first thing he does upon arrival at any session is sprint over from the car and shake the hands of all the people in attendance. He greets them with energy and a zest for life that is far beyond the average seven year old boy. Adrian has real relationships with other participants and is able and willing to make conversation with anyone and everyone; something that he once shied away from.
Adrian’s mum Amanda was thrilled with the Program and the self-confidence that it bought to Adrian.
The Inclusive Holiday Program has been fantastic for Adrian and for all our family. We moved to Australia in 2010 and we were very unsure of what we were getting into as we knew no one here. This program helped us all make friends in Karratha and Adrian, as you can see, has grown so very much. He is just a different boy now – we can’t keep him quiet and he seems to know everyone in town.
